COURTNI FOSTER
Courtni Foster, Associate Literary Agent Courtni’s approach to the literary world is shaped by the same qualities that have carried her from rural St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, to the final year of medical school in DC: resilience, curiosity, discipline, and a never-ending belief in the power of community. Her experiences as a young Black immigrant, a budding doctor, and a neuroscience researcher help her bring a thoughtful, culturally aware, and people-centered perspective to every project.
She is especially passionate about uplifting writers from marginalized communities and authors whose intersectional identities inform fresh, but ever-necessary, stories. Dedicated, organized, adaptable, and collaborative, Courtni is both a careful listener and a stalwart advocate. Her philosophy is rooted in true partnership: she wants writers to feel supported throughout the entire process, from manuscript development to book-deal negotiations and beyond. After all, this work is inspired by her deep respect for stories and the people who write them.
Courtni considers herself proudly “genreless,” though currently she is looking for speculative fiction, especially Fantasy, which will always hold a special place on her shelves (and in her heart). She is drawn to work that is emotionally evocative, the kind of storytelling that pulls readers into another world and shares lessons that stay with them for a lifetime.
Outside of medicine, Courtni finds joy in escaping into a new book, experiencing live music, experimenting with new recipes, and traveling with her best friend. Above all, she hopes to build lasting creative relationships and help good writing and even better stories reach the world.
